Kazit ("we", "us", "our") operates the Kazit platform at kazit.ke. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use our services.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and location (city/area).

Profile information: Your profile photo, bio, skills, and verification documents (e.g. national ID) if you apply as a worker.

Transaction data: Payment amounts, escrow records, M-Pesa transaction references, wallet balances, and withdrawal history.

Usage data: Pages visited, features used, device type, browser, IP address, and session timestamps.

Communications: Messages exchanged through in-app chat (between clients and workers) and support requests.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and maintain your account
  • To match clients with workers and facilitate task completion
  • To process payments, hold escrow, and manage wallet transactions
  • To verify worker identities and qualifications
  • To send notifications about jobs, deliveries, and payment status
  • To resolve disputes and enforce our Terms of Service
  • To improve the platform, fix bugs, and develop new features
  • To comply with legal obligations

3. Payment Data

Kazit uses M-Pesa (via Safaricom Daraja API) for deposits and withdrawals. We do not store your M-Pesa PIN. We store transaction references and amounts for record-keeping and dispute resolution. Escrow funds are held on-platform and released only when a client confirms delivery.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these circumstances:

  • Between clients and workers: Your name, profile photo, and location are visible to the other party on accepted jobs. Chat messages are shared between matched parties.
  • Payment providers: Phone numbers and transaction amounts are shared with M-Pesa/Safaricom to process payments.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by Kenyan law, court order, or government request.
  • Platform safety: We may share data with law enforcement if we believe there is a risk to safety.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure (Supabase). We use encryption in transit (TLS) and row-level security policies to ensure users can only access their own data. File uploads (profile photos, delivery attachments) are stored in access-controlled storage buckets.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Transaction records are kept for 7 years for tax and legal compliance. If you delete your account, we remove personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

7. Your Rights

Under Kenyan data protection law (Data Protection Act, 2019), you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention requirements)
  • Object to processing of your data for marketing purposes
  • Withdraw consent at any time

8. Cookies and Analytics

Kazit is a progressive web app. We use local storage and session storage for authentication and preferences. We do not use third-party tracking cookies.

9. Children

Kazit is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via in-app notification. Continued use of Kazit after changes constitutes acceptance.
